Manchester City F.C. manager Pep Guardiola will step down from his role at the end of the season after a decade in charge, the club has announced.

In a statement issued on Friday, Manchester City confirmed that Guardiola will leave his managerial position this summer but will continue his association with the club through a new role as a Global Ambassador for the City Football Group.

The new position will see the Spaniard provide technical advice to clubs within the City Football Group, while also contributing to selected projects and collaborations.

“Pep Guardiola will continue his relationship with the City Football Group, by taking up a role as a Global Ambassador. The role will see him giving technical advice to the clubs in the group, working on specific projects and collaborations,” the statement said.

Guardiola, who joined Manchester City in July 2016, will leave as the most successful manager in the club’s history after winning 20 major trophies during his tenure.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Guardiola recalled one of his earliest moments after arriving in Manchester.

“When I arrived, my first interview was with Noel Gallagher. I walked out thinking, ‘Okay… Noel is here? This will be fun,’” Guardiola said.

The 55-year-old’s final match in charge is expected to be against Aston Villa F.C. at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola’s departure comes days after City lost the 2025–26 Premier League title race to Arsenal F.C., who secured the championship following City’s draw against Bournemouth.

Reports indicate that former Chelsea F.C. manager Enzo Maresca, who previously served under Guardiola at City, is among the frontrunners to replace him.

Guardiola initially signed a three-year contract in February 2016 to succeed Manuel Pellegrini ahead of the 2016–17 season.

Although he ended his debut season without silverware, City went on to dominate English football under his leadership. In the 2017–18 season, the club became the first team to reach 100 points in a Premier League campaign and scored a record 106 goals.

In the 2022–23 season, City became only the second English side after Manchester United F.C. to complete a historic Treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in the same season.

Guardiola also guided City to an unprecedented fourth consecutive English league title in the 2023–24 campaign.

Despite signing a two-year contract extension in November 2024 that was expected to keep him at the club until 2027, Guardiola will now bring an end to his managerial reign while maintaining a strategic role within the wider City Football Group.
