Police in Kakamega County are searching for a woman accused of seriously injuring her husband and a 16-month-old child by pouring boiling water on them following a domestic dispute.

The incident was reported to Malinya Patrol Base under Malaika Police Station on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, police said.

According to Western police boss George Seda, the incident occurred on June 1 at his home when a woman visited carrying a child.

The husband told police that he introduced the visitor to his wife as his newly married second wife and informed her that they had a 16-month-old child together.

He alleged that his wife welcomed the pair into the house before going to the kitchen, ostensibly to prepare tea.

However, after a few minutes, she allegedly returned carrying a sufuria filled with boiling water and poured it on him while he was holding the child against his chest.

As a result, both the man and the infant sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment.

Police said the child remains admitted to the hospital in serious condition, while the father’s condition was not immediately disclosed.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Authorities have launched investigations and are pursuing the suspect as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.

Meanwhile, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer was injured after suspected bandits attacked a group of herders in Sarima, Loiyangalani Sub-County, Marsabit County.

According to the police, the attack occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Seko Junction in Sarma area.

Police said suspected a group of bandits ambushed herders from Lonjori area who were migrating with their livestock. Among the animals were about 200 livestock that had reportedly been recovered after being stolen in an earlier raid allegedly linked to the same bandits.

As the herders moved through the area, the attackers struck, prompting officers from the GSU camp in Sarima to respond to the scene.

During the ensuing confrontation, security officers exchanged gunfire with the suspected bandits.

In the process, a Police Constable attached to GSU Sarima, sustained a gunshot wound to the left cheek, slightly below the eye.

The injured officer was rushed to the Lake Turkana Wind Power Health Centre, where he received first aid treatment. Authorities said arrangements were underway to airlift him to Nairobi for specialized medical care.

No fatalities were reported during the incident, and it was not immediately clear whether any of the suspected bandits were injured during the exchange of fire.

Security agencies have launched investigations into the attack as efforts continue to combat recurring banditry incidents and livestock-related conflicts in the region.
