Law enforcement officers from Muhoroni Sub-County arrested three individuals linked to a brazen act of violence, where a gang stormed Chemelil Academy, leaving a trail of chaos and destruction.

The terrifying incident unfolded on June 18, 2026, when officers received a distress call about an ongoing attack at the school.

Responding with urgency, officers rushed to the scene.
To their shock, they spotted around 20 men, armed with crude weapons, fleeing in different directions, some heading towards Achego while others vanished into the nearby sugarcane fields.

Upon arrival, officers were confronted with a scene of devastation. The gang had wreaked havoc, smashing their way into the administration block and vandalising the offices of the Principal and Deputy Principal.

The assailants not only terrorised the staff but also assaulted them, making off with 10 smartphones, cash, and other valuables.

In the aftermath of the chaos, injured staff members were swiftly taken to Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment in stable condition.

Following the attack, officers launched a manhunt for the suspects. Through intelligence leads, they apprehended three suspects: Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma, and Walter Owa, aka Teddy Obul, at various locations within Chemelil.

These three are now in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, officers are tirelessly pursuing additional leads to trail and apprehend the other suspects still on the run.
Four people sustained injuries during the incident.

The injured were taken to Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, shortly after the school reopened following the half-term break.

The school’s chief principal raised the alarm, prompting a team of police officers led by the Muhoroni Deputy Sub-County Police Commander and detectives to respond
As officers approached the school, they spotted about 20 men armed with crude weapons.

The suspects fled into a nearby sugarcane plantation on seeing the police, evading arrest.

Investigators established that the attackers broke into the principal’s office by forcing the door locks, harassed the principal and stole Sh7,000.

They also broke into the deputy principal’s office and stole Sh5,000.

The gang further stole 10 smartphones belonging to members of staff and students.

Police believe the invasion was intended to disrupt school activities, as Thursday marked the official reporting day for students returning from the half-term break. Authorities confirmed that all students present at the school have been accounted for.

Police said the situation was brought under control and normal learning has resumed.
