Laura Freigang is a German professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Frauen-Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and the Germany women’s national team.
Although born in Kiel, she spent much of her early childhood in Oppenheim in Rhineland-Palatinate after her family relocated there shortly after her birth.
She later moved back north with her family before establishing herself as a prominent attacking player known for her goal-scoring ability, technical skill, and contributions at both club and international levels.
Beyond the pitch, Freigang has pursued studies in communication sciences, psychology, and sports science.
Siblings
Laura has one full brother named Lucas Freigang.
Lucas is younger than Laura. She also has two half-brothers named David and Pascal.
Lucas gained brief public attention in 2014 when, as a child, he was selected as one of the player escorts for the FIFA World Cup final in Brazil.
After the siblings submitted an application video among tens of thousands of entries, Lucas walked onto the pitch at the Maracanã Stadium hand-in-hand with Germany captain Philipp Lahm.
She described the World Cup experience as a major highlight for him.
Career
Freigang began playing organised football at a young age with FSV Oppenheim. She spent about nine years developing her skills at the club.
During that period, she often trained and competed with boys’ teams.
In 2011, following a family move, she joined Holstein Kiel. She featured for the club’s B-junior team in the top youth league.
Freigang later moved to TSV Schott Mainz. At Mainz, she helped the side earn promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with strong goal-scoring form.

From 2016 to 2018, she attended Pennsylvania State University on a sports scholarship.
She played for the Penn State Nittany Lions while studying communication sciences and later psychology.
During her college years, Freigang earned multiple individual recognitions. She also made significant contributions in goals and overall attacking play.
In 2018, she returned to Germany and signed with 1. FFC Frankfurt. The club later became the women’s section of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Freigang has become a key forward for Eintracht Frankfurt. She has regularly ranked among the league’s top scorers in various seasons.
She has also extended her contract with the club through 2027. On the international stage, she progressed through Germany’s youth teams from under-15 to under-20 level.
Her youth career included appearances at World Cups and European championships.
She made her senior Germany debut in 2020. Since then, she has earned dozens of caps while scoring regularly.
Freigang featured at the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro, where Germany reached the final. She also represented Germany at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
She was part of Germany’s squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also featured at the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro.
Accolades
Among her early individual honours is the bronze Fritz Walter Medal, which she received in 2015 for outstanding young talent.
At college level, she received distinctions including the Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection. She was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI Second Team.
She earned a place on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. She was also named Offensive Player of the Big Ten Tournament.
With the Germany senior team, she earned a silver medal as runner-up at the 2022 UEFA Women’s Championship. She also won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
In recognition of the Olympic achievement, she and her teammates received the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt in 2024. The honour is Germany’s highest sporting distinction.
She has also been part of squads that achieved third place in the UEFA Women’s Nations League. At club level, she has posted strong scoring seasons in the Frauen-Bundesliga.
She has finished among the league’s leading goal scorers in multiple campaigns.
