Education CS Amina Mohamed seems to have thrown her predecessor and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i under the bus by saying that she also does not understand why payment for the land where Ruaraka Primary school and Drive in Primary school is located was expedited.

She said that the school had already occupied the land for thirty years and did not understand the urgency.

“I am not in a position to answer that as I also don’t understand the urgency that was in that case. The school had occupied the land for more than thirty years and I think it would have taken more time to resolve it,” Mohamed said.

CS Mohamed said that she had not had any discussions with the former cabinet secretary to understand why the payments were made. The committee chairman Moses Kajwang’ lauded her for being candid.

She however said that she would work towards getting the required information within three months which the commission said was optimistic.

The committee is investigating why land perceived to be government land was paid for by the ministry of Education to a private investor.

The argument is that the land was compulsorily acquired for the benefit of the public and therefore belonged to the  government. The alleged owner, Francis Mburu was arrested by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission and questioned for receiving Sh.1.5 Billion payment.

But Mburu in his defense says that he is being unfairly targeted, accusing Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko of lying to Kenyans and the government.

He told reporters that Sonko and others have illegally allocated over 800 plots that are on his property, adding that he will seek Sh30 billion compensation from the government.

“My companies Afrison Imports Limited and Huelands Limited have never surrendered the land. That land has been my property since 1981. I now want Sh30 billion from the Nairobi County government because they took the property and they have built high-rise buildings on it and now they are talking about surrender,” he said.
