KRA Freezes Gor Mahia Accounts Over Kshs129 Million In Tax Arrears

    GOR MAHIA

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has frozen Gor Mahia’s accounts at Development Bank over tax arrears amounting to Kshs129 million.

The taxmen are now targeting the club’s sources of income and want any earning channeled straight to them to settle the amount.

Despite having a shirt sponsor, K’Ogalo’s other sources of income like merchandizing and membership are still largely ignored and the club often operates on the edge financially.

Gor are among the few clubs in KPL that can rely on gate takings to augment their earnings but, with dwindling numbers in the stands, the revenue stream is not dependable.

In the recent past the management has had to deal with cases of go slows within the playing unit over unpaid bonuses.

The latest move by KRA if not reversed quickly is therefore expected to cripple the club.

Gor are expected to fly the country’s flag in Tanzania on Sunday when they meet Yanga SC in the Caf Confederation Cup return match at National Stadium, Dar Es Salaam.

K’Ogalo won the first leg 4-0 at the Kasarani Stadium and are currently placed second in Group D of the tournament behind USM Alger of Algeria.

A win on Sunday will almost certainly make them the first Kenyan club to reach the quarterfinals of the Africa’s second tier interclub championships.
