Kenya coach Sebastien Migne has named a squad of a whopping 38 players for the upcoming 2019 Afcon qualifier against Ghana on 8 September 2018 at Kasarani Stadium.

The players will be in camp for a maximum of five days hence begging the question why did Migne had to summon such a huge squad?

That aside, the French manager, who has been in and out of the country, has surprisingly included a player who is unattached and another who is still recovering from an injury.

Former Kariobangi Sharks striker Masud Juma, who recently terminated his contract with South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side Cape Town City has made the list.

Masud has barely played competitively this year since joining the Citizens in January as he spent the better part of his stay there nursing a long term injury.

South Africa-based Maritzburg FC’s defender Brian Mandela, who is suspended for the match and has also been out injured, also made the squad while, Gor Mahia’s skipper Harun Shakava, who has been outstanding for the club both locally and internationally in the CAF Confederation Cup is loudly missing.

Gor’s midfielder Humphrey Mieno is also out of the list despite his current envious form for K’Ogalo as fans probe Migne’s selection criteria.

Stars’ Tottenham Hostspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has also been summoned despite the fact that he’s struggling with a recurrent knee injury and missed the club’s preseason tour.

The captain has missed the past few Stars’ engagements with grapevine ripe that he may have fallen out with the powers that be at the Kandanda House, Kasarani.

Another player loudly missing in the team is China-based winger Ayub Timbe, who has been banging in goals for his side Heilongjiang Lava Spring.

Like Mandela, Ayub is suspended for the crucial fixture.

Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo, who has kept the most clean-sheets in this season’s top-tier league, was given the nod by Migne and so is Ian Otieno, who plies his trade in Zambia for Red Arrows.
