President George Weah captained Liberia’s Lone Star in an international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles at Samuel Doe Sports Complex, Monrovia Tuesday.

Weah, the only African player to win Fifa’s World Player of the Year Award, played for 79 minutes before being substituted.

Every single touch by the 51-year-old was cheered by the home fans who were allowed free entry into the stadium.

Liberia arranged the friendly which ended in a 2-1 win for Nigeria to retire number 14 shirt, worn by Weah at his playing peak.

Nigeria fielded a fairly side which had Leicester City’s Wildfred Ndidi and Peter Etebo of Stoke City.

    Ndidi’s club-mate Kelechi Iheanacho featured as a second-half substitute.

Eto and Simeon Nwankwo were on the mark for the Super Eagles while Kpah Sherman reduced the deficit through a penalty.

The head of state has also directed the ministry of sports to ensure that the national football team gets proper training in Brazil.

Minister of sports Zeogar Wilson disclosed that Weah, who is also the Chief Patron of Sports, wants the team to “undergo some serious training” in the South American football powerhouse.
