Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been accused of orchestrating Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa’s ouster from the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).

According to the Citizen Weekly, the legislator is convinced that the governor cum ODM deputy leader is behind her woes because she rejected his sexual advances.

The weekly publication reports that Jumwa’s troubles started after she said “NO” to Joho’s sexual advances.

The lawmaker is facing disciplinary action and could be kicked out of the party should the National Governing Council (NGC) ratify a decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to expel her and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori.

The two are said to have disrespected the party for supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

They have since explained that their actions are “in the spirit of the handshake” and the building bridges initiative; both started by President Uhuru Kenyatta and their party leader Raila Odinga.

The Malindi lawmaker who has come under fire from some party members in her own backyard has accused the county chief of betraying her and not coming to her aid when the disciplinary committee tried to “intimidate” her.

“ODM should stop joking. I was in ODM by choice; I was arrested because of Raila [Odinga]. In Coast, the deputy party leader Ali Hassan Joho has been silent since the intimidation began,” she said.

A number of Coast leaders have also joined the Joho bashing parade saying that he does not want other leaders from the region to grow.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali who has had a couple of run-ins with the governor said that he has been bulldozing leaders from the region so as to “hero worship him”.

Dori and Jumwa are however fighting the NEC decision and are being represented by Ruto’s ally Kipchumba Murkomen.

“There was no NEC constituted or properly constituted on December 4, 2018 and none on January 24, 2019 or any other date as required by law and in particular Article 7.1 of ODM,” the petition reads in part.

The party is apparently ready to face Murkomen in court to ensure their expulsion decision stays.
