The Members of the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) have declined a request by County bosses to suspend sittings on the audit queries.

In a statement issued by the committee’s chairman, Moses Kajwang’, the Senators asserted that if any governor has any reservations on the reports, they should inform the Senate before they appear for the sittings.

He stated: “Any party with reservations on county reports by the Auditor General has the opportunity to address these before the Senate or relevant County Assembly.

“Senate CPAIC shall carry on with its sittings in accordance with the notice of appearances published in the media and in line with Article 229 (8) of the Constitution of Kenya,” Kajwang’ noted.

The Homa Bay Senator exclaimed that the Senate committee shall proceed with its recommendations for a special audit of Kiambu County and “shall discuss with the Auditor General practical means of achieving this within the shortest time frame.”

The senate’s response followed a requested written to them on Tuesday that asked them to halt the proceedings after a meeting between the Controller of Budget and officials from the Audito General’s office concluded that Kiambu and seven other counties did not budget, receive or spend monies indicated in audit reports.

CoG Chairman, Wycliffe Oparanya stated that they resolved to form a multi-stakeholder technical committee, chaired by the Controller of Budget and comprising the CoG, Treasury and Auditor Genera, who should give a report in 14 days.

Following the new development on the much talked about fictitious budgets by the counties, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was forced to cancel an interview on Citizen TV on News Night with Hussein Mohammed.

Waititu was to appear at the show to “shed light on recent allegations of misappropriation of funds and deceit by his government.”

He however explained that he could not show up for the interview after he was advised otherwise by his fellow governors.
