President Uhuru Kenyatta has today added the Hindu to the list of Kenya’s tribes.
Uhuru declared the Hindu as the 44th tribe citing articles 11 and 44 of the constitution saying that the community was an integral part of the national outfit.
Article 11 recognizes culture as the foundation of the nation and as the cumulative civilization of the Kenyan people and nation.
Kenyans of Indian and Pakistani descent, had in May asked to be formally included into the long list of Kenyan tribes. Many of their forefathers helped build the nation and fight colonialism but have often been secluded from mainstream Kenyan life.
The President also declared the Makonde community as the 43rd tribe of Kenya early this year. The more than 1.07 members of the coomunity were in February issued with Kenyan Identity Cards by the head of state.

not HINDU – Asians. others are also part of the asians like sikhs, muslims, goans and jain. please correct.
There are Indians and Pakistani Christians too but clearly all are bundled as ‘hindu’ (I guess the origin of mhindi). I can only blame this ignorance on yourselves though – lack of integration.
