The United States of America (USA) on Friday issued a travel advisory to Kenya due to increased risk of contracting Coronavirus. Kenya relaxed COVID-19 containment measures on July 6 has since reopened her economy, though gradually. On August 1, the government allowed resumption of international flights with travellers from US allowed into the country. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced 727 new Covid-19 infections, recorded in the last 24 hours. Addressing the press from Kisii, the CS noted that the newly detected infections were drawn from a 6,814 sample size. Kenya’s toll has as a result jumped to 25,138. The national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) is yet to resume flights to Tanzania, a week after Transport CS James Macharia indicated that the two countries were in talks. “On Tanzania we have not yet resumed, we are waiting for government of Kenya to confirm,” KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka told the Business Daily. Kenya has confirmed 538 new Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours after testing 6,195 samples. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefing, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman said that total has risen to 24,411. Of the new cases, 516 were Kenyans while 22 were foreigners. In terms of gender, 333 were male and 205 were female, all aged between 2 and 85 years. Unfortunately, 8 patients succumbed to the disease, raising the number of fatalities to 399. A 62 year old woman was on Tuesday sentenced to 35 years in jail after being found guilty of robbery with violence. Joyce Wairimu Kariuki was found guilty by a Loitoktok court. According to the DCI, Wairimu is an ex-convict of Shimo La Tewa Prison where she served a 15 year sentence. The ex convict was first arrested in 2005. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Saturday announced 23 Covid-19 deaths, the highest number of fatalities in a single day since the pandemic struck back in March. Addressing the press from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the CS said the total number of fatalities currently stands at 364. Kenya has further reviewed the list of countries allowed into her airspace as she reopens her economy, gradually. On Friday, Transport CS James Macharia announced eight more countries that will be allowed to fly in and out of the country. Tanzania will not allow Kenya Airways (KQ) into its airport after Kenya excluded it from the list of countries that are allowed to fly in and out of the country.
