In the late 60’s, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta met Dhanji Parmar in the tailor’s shop along Kenyatta Avenue in Nakuru. Out of that grew a budding business relationship that saw Mr Parmar become the official leather jacket tailor of the first President of Kenya. Dhanji Parmar did his work with passion and served diligently. And evidently, Mzee Kenyatta was mostly seen in a leather jacket made by the famous tailor. Fire broke out at Uhuru market along Jogoo road on Monday evening due to undetermined circumstances. The fire broke out in one of the stalls and was spreading quickly before it was contained. Facebook owned messaging app, WhatsApp, is limiting the number of chats users can forward messages to in a bid to curb the spread of “fake news” following mob lynching in India. In India, the spread of false rumors via WhatsApp about child kidnappers has reportedly caused 24 deaths since April. This gave rise to mobs that went round lynching suspected kidnappers. Kenya Power will see its funding for the Last Mile Connectivity Project doubled as African Development Bank (AfDB) extends its support towards the Government – driven initiative for universal connectivity by 2020. AfDB has given Kenya a total of kshs15 billion for both phase one of the Last Mile project and will add a similar amount of money for the second phase, bringing the total to Kshs30 billion. Residents of Kibra woke up to demolitions on Monday morning. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) started the demolitions early morning to pave way for the Ngong Road- Kibera-Kungu Karumba- Lang’ata Link road. At least 31 students have been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where they are reportedly being checked for soft tissue injuries and smoke inhalation. Kenya’s leading mobile and internet service provider Safaricom is suffering a countrywide data outage as a result of a fiber cut. Reports indicate that voice calls are not affected in some parts of the country. Kahawa Tungu has learnt that the telco is yet to identify the specific area where the cut happened. Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in conjunction with the police had at least 99 people arrested for operating unlicensed petroleum storage facilities in Industrial Area, Nairobi. The commission said that the suspects were apprehended during a raid targeting 12 unlicensed premises. The suspects who were arrested on Thursday night, the ERC noted will face charges that will include construction and operation of petroleum storage facilities without a permit. DCI officers on Friday apprehended a Safaricom employee and a Jomo Kenyatta University student believed to be behind the SIM card Swap fraud. The telco employee Maurice Musoti and the fourth year student of BSc Electronic Engineering Rian Obaga Nyagaka were arrested and an Apple laptop, 2,160 unused Safaricom SIM cards, 44 used Safaricom SIM cards, and five Agent Till numbers recovered, the DCI has confirmed.
