The High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Abduba Dida seeking to have the presidential debates slated for 10th and 24th July halted if not all eight candidates are allowed on the same platform. Judge Joseph Mativo has dismissed the case saying the case lacks merit. Senator Hassan Omar’s campaign vehicle was on Friday morning vandalized by unidentified people. The road show truck was stoned by goons at around 3am. According to reports, no one was hurt during the incident. The truck is said to have been vandalized and some parts made away with. According to the Elections Observation Group Media Monitoring Unit, twenty-eight cases of hate speech and inflammatory language were recorded between May and June. The unit assesses spread, degree and substance of hate speech and inflammatory language on radio, TV and newspapers. The unit has monitored five national TV stations, 13 radio stations, including four county-based ones, and four local dailies. Tanzanian authorities ordered for the detention of an opposition lawmaker on Tuesday for insulting President John Magufuli. Police officers have been warned by the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet against posting photos of crime scenes on social media. Boinnet directed that officers on ”unauthorised” social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Facebook, pull down the photos or face disciplinary action. The former teacher rejected the Inspector General’s offer and insisted on having twenty officers as part of his security detail. Kijabe police have found a body suspected to be of a victim of extrajudicial killing in Kinale Forest on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
