Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko got a temporary reprieve after the Tax Appeals Tribunal ordered the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to immediately lift agency notices freezing his bank accounts. The ruling directed KRA to remove the agency notices placed on Sonko’s accounts at Equity Bank and Co-operative Bank, pending the determination of his appeal in an ongoing tax dispute. Two men were sentenced to 10 years in prison each, or pay a fine of Sh5 million apiece, after being found guilty of vandalising electricity equipment and unlawfully handling power infrastructure. Ndhiwa Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court on Friday handed the sentences to David Ochieng Lang’o and Godwin Omondi Oduogi. According to Kenya Power, Ochieng was arrested in July 2025 in a joint operation involving officers attached to the State body as well as the Migori Police Station. Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, has voted to introduce voluntary military service, in a move aimed at boosting national defences after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Two minors were killed in a fire incident in Ntulele, Narok County. Police said the two were aged nine and four. They were both girls. The nine-year-old girl was a grade two pupil at Enooseyia Primary School in the area. The incident happened on Thursday, December 4 daytime in the Kojanga area, police said. An unknown number of thugs raided a construction site and killed a night guard before escaping with assorted construction materials in Oloolua area, Kajiado County. The gang also hacked and seriously injured a second guard in the Thursday morning incident, police said. Tinderet parliamentary seat aspirant Shadrack Maritim, who was reported missing two months ago after leaving his house for a morning jog resurfaced in Mbale, Uganda. Maritim’s disappearance had earlier been linked to a senior police official who, according to Maritim’s family, had threatened him.
