In the first incident, a woman who was working as a casual labourer at a guest house in Meli Kubwa area was found murdered in one of the rooms there.
Police said the victim was cleaning and changing bedsheets at the Golden Guest House when she was attacked by unknown assailants.
Police said the assailants also sexually assaulted her. They tied her neck using a bedsheet before killing her.
Her body was found lying on the bed with the bedsheet around the neck long after the murder. Police said the room keys were scattered on the floor.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
In Dumez area, a single mother of a three-year-old boy was found murdered in her house, police said.
The motive of the murder was not immediately known.
Neighbours said they heard the boy crying for attention from the rental house.
They went to check and established the door had been locked from inside forcing them to seek help from the boy on how to open it.
It was when they stumbled on the body of the woman aged 30 lying on the floor and half naked.
Police responded to the scene and established an unknown man had visited the house before he killed the woman earlier on.
Police said there was a packet of condoms in the house and the scene was disturbed.
The assailant is believed to have used a pullover to strangle the woman. It was found tied around her neck. There was a bruise on her left knee.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigation into the murder.
An operation was staged in the area in search for the suspected assailant in vain.
