A night guard was killed in a robbery in Ndori, Rarieda, Siaya County. The deceased was hit in the head and died behind a church structure that is near a hardware a gang had raided on August 19. Police said the deceased sustained fatal head injuries and the body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy. A woman was electrocuted as she prepared the pulpit for a church service in Dago area, Kisumu County. The incident happened on Sunday August 18 morning at the Faith Declaration Ministry Church, Kanyamedha area. Police said the woman identified as Florence Akinyi Aoko, 29 is the wife of the church’s pastor. The US Treasury Department unveiled sanctions against former Haitian president Michel Martelly on Tuesday for trafficking drugs, including cocaine, destined for the United States. The actions taken by Washington echo similar moves from the Canadian government, which imposed sanctions in 2022 against Martelly and two ex-prime ministers, accusing them of profiting from armed gangs. Police are hunting for a suspect who escaped from custody in Webuye, Bungoma County. The suspect identified as Ben Sifuna had been detained for claims of stealing and after he had been involved in a mob injustice incident. He sustained injuries and was rescued by police who took him to the Webuye County Hospital. A police officer was tasked to take care of him to heal before he is processed and arraigned. The bodies of six hostages being held by Hamas have been retrieved from an “underground tunnel route” inside the Gaza Strip, Israel’s military has said. A statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the bodies of Yagev Buchshtab, Alexander Dancyg, Avraham Munder, Yoram Metzger, Chaim Peri and British-Israeli Nadav Popplewell were recovered from the Khan Younis area on Monday. Five of their deaths had already been announced by Israel, though it was thought Avraham Munder could still be alive. Listed agri-business firm and superfoods producer Kakuzi has announced a Sh507 million half-year pretax profit on the back of a general market recovery for its Macadamia Nuts and Avocado superfoods exports business. Speaking when he announced the half-year results release, Kakuzi PLC Managing Director Chris Flowers said the firm’s half-year results had been positively impacted by a buoyant international avocado market, created mainly by subdued global supply for the popular superfood.
