Police are looking for a gang that attacked a senior police officer in Vihiga and robbed him of his pistol loaded with 15 bullets. The Officer Commanding Station Vihiga Kevin Rutto told his colleagues he was on patrol in the area using his private car when he was attacked and stabbed. A sergeant of police was arrested after he threatened to shoot at a crowd in Huruma area, Nairobi. The officer was on duty in the area when he retreated to the police station and cocked his rifle and declared “enough is enough”, police said. Members of the public who were at the station at about 4 pm on Thursday scampered for safety on seeing the officer behave that way, witnesses said. Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has been arrested. The former minister was nabbed alongside three others by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers. The others include; Leah Adda Gwiyo, the former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and Joseph Odero of West Consult Engineers. A key suspect in the Shakahola massacre was Thursday detained in custody for a further 130 days. A Shanzu court granted the state’s application to extend the detention of Paul Mackenzie and 65 other suspects for 130 days pending investigations and charges. The state had requested 180 days of additional detention through Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jami Yamina. Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido said that the prosecutions had advanced compelling reasons on merit. Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen Thursday received a report that has identified and recommended how to address various challenges at Kenya’s airports. The Multi-Sectoral Technical Committee, chaired by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Director Walter Ogolla, reviewed the state of facilities and operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Moi International Airport and Wilson Airport. Donald Trump ally Rudy Giuliani filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, days after a jury decided he must pay more than $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers he defamed by falsely accusing them of helping to rig the 2020 election. Czech authorities say 10 people were Thursday killed and “dozens” injured in a shooting at a university in Prague. The revenue collected by the government on the eCitizen portal in a single day has crossed the Sh900 million mark for the first time. Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the latest data from the online access and payment platform for government services reveals that Sh903.6 million was collected on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Police are looking for a gang that killed a rider before robbing him of his motorcycle in Likoni, Mombasa. The deceased’s body was found lying on the roadside in Mbuyuni area and was identified as Kaban Kitsao Gunga. He was a rider in the area and had on December 19 picked up two pillion passengers to the ferry area when he was killed. A driver who underestimated the speed of an approaching cargo train is in hospital after his car was hit and badly damaged. Three men were Wednesday evening arrested and Sh1.5 million they had stolen recovered from them outside a bank in Nairobi West area. Police said the men had trailed a private car from Industrial, about five kilometers away to the scene where they stole the cash.
