Kenya has announced 904 new Covid-19 cases bringing the country’s caseload to 154,392. This was after,673 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, 885 were Kenyans while 19 were foreigners. 519 were males with 385 females. The youngest was a two-month-old infant while the oldest was aged 97. The total cumulative tests so far conducted 1,624,663 with the positivity rate now at 15.9%. Siaya High Court has sentenced Victor Ogolla Luta, co-accused in the murder of Star journalist Eric Oloo to 35 years in prison. Appearing before Siaya High Court Judge Roseline Aburili, Luta was found guilty of killing Oloo on November 14, 2019. The judge ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused hence found him guilty of the crime. A building belonging to former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has been demolished by Kisumu County Government. Water supply in the Central Business District (CBD) has been shut down over damaged pipes, Nairobi Water has said. Through a statement on Twitter, the Water company said the move is to pave way for repairs of pipes. Two private security guards were yesterday charged with theft of jewelry and household items valued at Sh4 million. Appearing before senior principal magistrate Derrick Kutto at Kibera Law Courts, the two, Newton Ongosi Mose and Richard Nyamatenia denied the charges. They were released on Sh500,000 bond or Sh300,000 cash bail each with the case set for mention on May 11, 2021. Patrick Orassa, a Boda Boda rider who reportedly knocked Pangani OCS Samir Yunus after curfew has been charged. Orassa was accused of refusing to stop at the roadblock despite being directed to do so. Apparently, he defied the orders from the OCS and knocked him down. The OCS sustained minor injuries and was treated for the same. Denying the charges before Milimani Magistrate Esther Kimilu, Orassa denied the charges claiming he lost control while speeding home to beat curfew. He was released on Sh50,000 cash bail. Kiambu businessman Evans Karani who confessed to killing his lover over alleged infidelity has asked the court for quick sentencing. Karani was virtually presented at the Thika court before Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga. The Magistrate allowed the police to detain him at Juja police station while investigations continue. An 80-year-old woman, Elizabeth Baliach has been arrested for performing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on five women aged between 25-35 years in Bomet county. On March 26, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued stringent containment measures for five counties that were marked as disease-infected areas.
