A family of five was hospitalized following a suspected food poisoning incident in Kisumu County’s Seme Sub-County.

Police said the incident was reported on March 18, 2026, and preliminary investigations indicate that on the evening of March 17, at around 6 pm, a woman aged 30 harvested wild plants from a nearby bush believed to resemble traditional nightshade vegetables, commonly known as Osuga.

She prepared the vegetables, which were eaten together with ugali by the entire family before they went to sleep.

However, the following morning, all five family members reportedly woke up experiencing severe symptoms, including mental confusion, vomiting, and general weakness.

The affected individuals, a couple and their three daughters aged 10, 9, and 3—were rushed to Ratta Health Centre for treatment.

Medical personnel confirmed that all five were admitted and are currently in stable condition as they continue receiving care.

Authorities suspect the family may have consumed poisonous or misidentified wild plants and have cautioned residents against picking and consuming unfamiliar vegetation.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Marsabit County launched investigations after a woman was struck by a suspected stray bullet in Sololo Sub-County.

Locals indicated that gunshots were heard coming from the Ramole direction. Shortly after, the victim, identified as Salo Jirmo Bidhu, 33, reported that she had been hit.

Police officers rushed to the scene and established that the woman had been struck on the left thigh while shopping at Sololo Market.

She was immediately taken to Sololo Mission Hospital, where doctors successfully removed a lodged bullet during a minor surgical procedure. She was later admitted in stable condition for observation.

Security officers have since intensified patrols in the area as investigations continue to determine the source of the gunfire. Authorities say the situation remains calm but have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a suspected drowning incident in Kangundo Sub-County, Machakos County.

Police said they found the body of a 45-year-old man identified as John Kyalo, who is believed to have drowned in a seasonal river.

The body had a visible injury above the right eye, which is suspected to have been sustained from a fall during the incident.

The body was later moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

    Police are investigating the incident.
