Drama ensued at Diani Police station in Kwale County on Wednesday after a contingent of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) stormed the station to rescue one of their own. According to local media reports, Sgt Suleiman Hamisi Banda was arrested by officers from the station after he went to demand for the release of his impounded motorcycle. Police have launched a manhunt for a suspected quack doctor who allegedly caused death of a patient at a local medical clinic in Gem, Siaya County. A 20-year-old woman was beaten to death by her family members in South Sudan for turning down a marriage proposal. Reports indicate the young woman’s suitor had offered 40 cows in return for her hand in marriage. Police in Kirinyaga have a launched a manhunt for a suspect who hacked his five-year-old son to death and left his daughter with injuries after an argument over Sh135 balance. Machakos County Assembly has passed a motion to rename Mua-Kaloleni road in honour of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s late father Gideon Kioko Kivanguli. The road in Governor Alfred Mutua-led County will now be renamed to Kivanguli Road. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has introduced a new mobile number prefix in addition to the current ’07’. In a statement on Tuesday, CA Director General Fancis Wangusi said the 01 prefix, with capacity of 100 million subscribers, will be effective immediately. The authority has already issued Safaricom with 2 million numbers, while rival network Airtel has benefited with 3 million numbers. Naftali Kinuthia, the man accused of killing Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi has been charged with murder. He was accused of planning and executing the murder on April 9 in Eldoret. Kinuthia appeared in Eldoret High Court on Tuesday where he denied the charges. Senior Eldoret Magistrate Stephen Githinji rejected Ms Wangechi’s family application to have the case transferred to Nairobi. “The incident happened here in Eldoret and most witnesses are within the same area,” said Justice Githinji. Two suspected members of a criminal gang have been shot dead by police in Mikindani area, Mombasa County. Police believe the suspects are part of a gang that killed one of the Dreamline bus staff in Jomvu.
