The Kingdom of Cambodia has dismissed reports circulating online alleging that it had ordered African nationals to leave the country by the end of May 2026, terming the claims false and misleading.

The reports had suggested that Cambodia would revoke waivers granted to foreign nationals, including citizens from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and other African countries, effective May 31, 2026. They further alleged that authorities would begin arresting foreigners found overstaying from June 1, 2026, before handing them over to immigration officials for legal action.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, May 29, 2026, Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior refuted the claims, saying the information was untrue.

The department also pointed to several websites based in Ghana that had published the disputed reports, including a headline suggesting: “Cambodia Orders Africans with Expired Immigration Waiver to Leave by May 31, 2026.”

“The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to clarify that the information on those websites is completely untrue,” the statement read.

The immigration authority urged the public to rely only on verified official channels for immigration updates. It directed citizens and foreign nationals to its official website at www.immigration.gov.kh or to contact +885 78386699 for accurate information.
