    Early Life

Carín León was born Óscar Armando Díaz de León Huez on July 26, 1989, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. His parents are Carmen and Óscar, and he has a brother named Luis.

León developed an interest in music at an early age. When he was 15, he began playing the guitar, a skill that would eventually become central to his professional career.

Growing up in Sonora also exposed León to the regional Mexican musical traditions that later influenced his sound. His career would eventually combine traditional regional Mexican styles with elements of other genres.

    Carín León’s First Bands

Before becoming a solo star, León performed with several musical groups.

His first band was Los Reales. In 2010, he founded Grupo Arranke with four friends. The group gradually developed a following and became known for songs such as “A Través del Vaso.”

León remained with Grupo Arranke for approximately seven years. His time with the band provided valuable experience performing live and developing his identity as a singer and guitarist.

After years of performing with the group, León decided to pursue a solo career in 2018.

    Carín León’s Solo Career

León began his solo career by recording his own version of “A Través del Vaso,” a song associated with his previous group.

He subsequently began touring and released several live recordings based on his performances. In 2018, he released live albums including “Desvelada con Banda y Mariachi,” “A Puro Pelo” and “Amanecida con Todo y con Todos.”

In 2019, León released his first studio album, “El Malo.” The album marked an important step in his transition from a group performer to a solo recording artist.

He continued releasing live projects in 2020, including “Borrachera con Taka Takas” and two volumes of “Encerrados Pero Enfiestados.”

    Carín León’s Breakthrough

León’s career reached another level in 2021.

He recorded “El Tóxico” with Grupo Firme, giving him his first song to chart on Mexico Songs. He also attracted attention with his versions of Noelia’s “Tú” and Extreme’s “More Than Words.”

That year, León released his second studio album, “Inédito,” further establishing himself as one of the most prominent voices in regional Mexican music.

His success continued into 2022 when he collaborated with Grupo Frontera on “No Es Por Acá” and “Que Vuelvas.”

“Que Vuelvas” became particularly successful. The song later reached the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 50, and became one of León’s biggest commercial hits.

León also appeared on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” series in 2022, introducing his music to an even wider audience.

His success that year was capped by a Latin Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Song for “Como lo Hice Yo,” a collaboration with Matisse and songwriter Édgar Barrera.

    Colmillo de Leche

In 2023, León released his third studio album, “Colmillo de Leche.”

The album reached No. 184 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart. It was supported by “Primera Cita,” which became one of León’s most recognizable songs and reached No. 2 on the Mexico Songs chart.

The success of the album strengthened León’s position as a major figure in regional Mexican music.

Later in 2023, he collaborated with Colombian singer Maluma on “Según Quién.” The song appeared on Maluma’s album “Don Juan” and reached No. 5 on the Mexico Songs chart.

León also embarked on an international tour, performing across Central and South America. His collaboration with Grupo Frontera, “Que Vuelvas,” continued to perform strongly, spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart.

Carín León’s Music and Touring Income

Touring has become an important part of León’s career and income.

As his music gained popularity across Mexico, the United States and Latin America, León expanded his live performances to larger venues and international markets.

His income from touring comes from performance fees and his share of revenue generated from ticket sales and related commercial activities. However, gross concert revenue does not represent an artist’s personal earnings because expenses such as venue costs, production, musicians, promoters, management, transportation and taxes must be deducted.

León has also benefited from the growing international popularity of música mexicana, particularly among younger audiences in the United States.

    Carín León’s Albums

Throughout his career, León has released a combination of studio and live albums.

Some of his notable projects include:

    • “El Malo”
    • “Inédito”
    • “Colmillo de Leche”
    • “Desvelada con Banda y Mariachi”
    • “A Puro Pelo”
    • “Amanecida con Todo y con Todos”
    • “Borrachera con Taka Takas”
    • “Encerrados Pero Enfiestados”
    • “U.V.V. Vol. 8”

His catalog has helped generate income through streaming, digital sales, physical music sales, licensing and songwriting royalties.

    Carín León’s Awards and Recognition

León has received significant recognition for his contributions to regional Mexican music.

One of his major achievements came in 2022 when he won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Song for “Como lo Hice Yo.”

His collaborations with Grupo Frontera, Grupo Firme and Maluma have also helped him gain recognition outside the traditional regional Mexican market.

His appearance on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” further demonstrated his growing international profile.

    Personal Life

Carín León married Isabel Alejandra Esquer in 2021. The couple has two children.

Despite his growing international fame, León has remained closely connected to his Mexican roots and the regional Mexican music scene that helped launch his career.
