    Botswana Retailer Choppies Plans To Open 40 Stores Across Africa

    choppiesBotswana retailer Choppies is looking to expand its Supermarket to different regions of the continent.

    The Supermarket recently announced plans to open an outlet in Embakasi before the end of the year.

    According to Vijay Kumar, Choppies East Africa’s executive director, the company intends to add to its 10 current outlets in Kenya.

    The company is currently operating in seven African countries including Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique.

    “Our intention is to have hyper and express signature stores that stock local as well as offer international brands that are currently unavailable in the market,” Mr Kumar said.

    Choppies chief executive Ramachandran Ottapathu says the company to open 40 more outlets across Africa by next year.

    “We will enter Namibia for the first time before the year ends. After a few years of losses, we are now making profits in South Africa,” Ottapathu said.
