Clement Sanga has quit as assistant chairman of Yanga SC alleging threats to his life by a section of club members following the team’s recent poor form.

Sanga’s decision follows Charles Boniface Mkwasa’s resignation last Wednesday as secretary general claiming poor health as the club’s management woes deepened.

“I have officially resigned as Yanga assistant chairman after fans threatened to attack me at home with machetes,” Sanga sensationally claimed during a presser on Monday.

Pressure has been mounting on him to vacate office after Yanga lost 4-0 to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in last Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup match.

Yanga members accused Sanga of standing in the way of the team’s revival as they continue to face lean financial times.

According to reports his continued stay in the office made two members of a board that was formed to steer the club out of the financial quagmire to quit as they could not work with him.

With him gone, there is hope that Yanga will now be able to attract well-wishers, who can help sign new players with just three days to the close of the transfer window and also pay the current squad.

The players staged a sit in over the weekend demanding to be paid.

Yanga’s financial difficulties begun with their former chairman Yusuf Manji running into problems with authorities over alleged money laundering and use of hard drugs.

They host Gor for the return match on Sunday at National Stadium, Dar Es Salaam.
