The Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) has launched a petition seeking to have President Uhuru Kenyatta fire Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet.

The petition has so far been signed by over 360 people, they need 500 signatures.

COFEK is fighting to get seven year old, Geoffrey Mutinda who was on Tuesday shot dead while playing on their balcony in his parents rented apartment in Pipeline.

The boy was hit by a stray bullet on the head while a pregnant woman in the same building was injured.

“My son was in class 2 going to 3. He was 7 years old. I loved him most. He is now dead. Whoever police that shot and killed my son, I leave him to God,” Mutinda’s mother said.

Boinnet’s officers, ranked world’s third worst force have been said to be ‘trigger happy’ and using excessive force during opposition protests.

President Kenyatta after taking oath of office pledged peace and to be president for all.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into Mutinda’s death view of establishing circumstances of the shootings for appropriate action to be taken.

“Upon conclusion, the authority will make recommendations and forward the investigation file to the office of director of public prosecution Keriako Tobiko for his attention,” said head of Communications and Outreach Department, Dennis Oketch.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko on November 16, ordered Boinnet to make plans and compensate 10 year old Stephanie Moraa’s family, who was shot in Nairobi’s Mathare area following election violence.
