The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has accused Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi of being recruited by President William Ruto to spy on the party’s activities.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party claimed that Koimburi was allegedly promised relief in several criminal cases in exchange for sharing information about DCP’s plans and movements. The cases reportedly involve land fraud, forgery of academic certificates, and an alleged self-abduction incident.
DCP said Koimburi has never been a member of the party and has not taken part in any of its activities. The party added that although Koimburi was once an ally of the party leader, he has not attended any public events with him in the last six months, often giving excuses.
The statement also referred to an earlier incident in which Koimburi claimed he had been abducted by police. According to DCP, Gachagua publicly defended him at the time, only to later learn that Koimburi had staged the abduction to avoid arrest over land-related cases.
“Indeed, our party leader has been extremely careful after he embarrassed him by lying to him that he had been abducted by police a few months ago only to learn that he had ‘abducted himself’ to avoid arrest over land fraud cases,” the statement reads.
DCP further said that on Monday morning, January 12, 2026, Koimburi called Gachagua and requested an urgent meeting, saying he was under stress and needed clarification on certain issues. The meeting took place later that day at Gachagua’s private office.
During the meeting, Koimburi reportedly expressed anger that his former election rival, Aloise Kinyanjui, had been allowed to join DCP. He was also upset that Kinyanjui had been given a chance to address supporters at Kimbo junction in Juja Constituency on Sunday, January 11, accompanied by DCP Deputy National Chairperson Peter Mwathi.
According to the statement, Koimburi felt betrayed and argued that he deserved special treatment after voting against the impeachment backed by President Ruto and standing with Gachagua. He claimed it was his understanding that all MPs and senators who opposed the impeachment would be given direct nominations for the 2027 General Election without going through party primaries.
DCP said Koimburi demanded that Kinyanjui be removed from the party and that he be given a written guarantee of a direct nomination. He also allegedly asked to be excused from appearing in public with the party leader until February next year, saying this would help slow down the court cases he is facing. The party claimed he threatened to return to President Ruto if his demands were not met.
In response, DCP said Gachagua thanked Koimburi for his past support but made it clear that the party would not issue direct nominations. He reportedly told Koimburi that DCP is a democratic party and all candidates must go through free and fair nominations.
The party leader also said exempting some leaders from nominations would weaken the party, which he said is currently enjoying strong public support. Koimburi was advised to prepare for the party nominations scheduled for March next year.
