Director of Public Prosecutions has withdrawn terror charges against journalist Laban-Cliff Onserio.
The prosecution on Monday cited insufficient evidence as reason for withdrawal.
Mr Onserio’s lawyer Ishmael Nyaribo said Kahawa Court magistrate Boaz Ombewa had marked the file as closed.
Mr Nyaribo also noted that his client was yet to take a plea.
The Chief of Staff at Standard Media Group was arrested on December 20 at the Holy Family Basilica parking lot.
The journalist was detained, after cops discovered a stun grenade in his vehicle.
According to the police, Mr Onserio was unable to provide adequate justification for possessing the flash-bang grenade and failed to present a certificate permitting him to do so.
An affidavit submitted to the court by the police indicated that Onserio told investigators that he bought the grenade from a British citizen who was affiliated with Fly 540.
The former Deputy Director of Communications at the defunct State House’s Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) was released on December 31 on a Sh100,000 cash bail.
Requesting the court to grant him freedom, the journo argued that he had spent over 14 days in police custody and wished spend the New Year’s holiday with his family.
