The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into alleged misuse of public funds during a lavish housewarming at the residence of Vihiga County Speaker Christopher Omulele.

In letters dated February 12, 2026, the commission requested Vihiga County officials and the county clerk to provide documents related to the event. The probe, conducted under EACC’s constitutional and statutory mandate, seeks to establish whether public money was inappropriately used to fund the celebration.

EACC has asked for records on the borrowing of funds from the Vihiga County Assembly for the housewarming, approval of the borrowing by the county government, confirmation of the transfer of the borrowed amount, and proof of reimbursement to the county government. The commission also requested any other relevant information or documents from the county by February 13, 2026.

In addition, EACC has called for the requisition from the user department, approved budgets for the 2023/2024 financial year or any other relevant year when funds were allocated for the event, procurement documents including quotations, bids, evaluation minutes, contracts, and professional opinions. Payment records such as invoices, vouchers, IFMIS records, RTGS transfers, and cheques for all goods and services procured for the party were also requested.

The commission said officers Brian Shigoli and Kevin Lagat, or any other authorized EACC officials, will be available to receive the requested documents.
