Everlyne Sylvia Achieng Olwande has been elected as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) following the death of Supreme Court Judge Mohamed Ibrahim.

Justice Ibrahim passed away on December 17, 2025, at the age of 69 in Nairobi after a long illness. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in June 2011 and was widely respected for his role in judicial reforms, integrity and efforts to improve access to justice during his 23-year career in the Judiciary.

The election of Olwande was announced through a gazette notice dated January 9, 2026.

Judicial Service Commission Secretary Winfridah Mokaya said Olwande will serve a five-year term starting January 14, 2026.

“It is notified for information of the general public that pursuant to Article 171 (2) (d) and (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, Hon. Everlyne Sylvia Achieng Olwande has been elected as a Member of the Judicial Service Commission for a term of five years, with effect from January 14, 2026,” the notice reads.
