A licensed civilian firearm holder in Nairobi was arrested after he reported the loss of a pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, prompting a police investigation.

The real estate businessman reported the incident at Karen Police Station on Sunday after he discovered at about 2:00 p.m. that his Ceska pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was missing from his house.

He told investigators that he last remembers having the firearm on June 18 while it was in his vehicle as he ran errands. He said he visited Tile and Carpet Centre along Mombasa Road before proceeding to Eka Hotel.

Police said the exact place where the firearm was lost has not been established because the owner was unable to provide a clear account of when or where it disappeared.

The licensed firearm holder was held at Karen Police Station as detectives continue interrogating him and investigating the circumstances surrounding the loss.

Police are seeking to establish the whereabouts of the missing pistol and ammunition amid concerns over the potential security risk posed by the unaccounted-for firearm.

Such weapons can cause much harm in society. Detectives were working to recover the weapon. They also planned to visit his house as part of the probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in Lebille, Tana River County, in an incident believed to be linked to inter-community clashes.

According to police the body had earlier been recovered in a thicket within the Lebille area and was identified as Mohammed Issak, also known as Bukur, a 55-year-old resident of the area.

Police said the deceased had sustained a bullet wound to the head. Preliminary investigations indicate the fatal injury is believed to have resulted from an exchange of gunfire between members of the Degodia and Wardei communities.

Officers processed and documented the scene before releasing the body to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing. The tension in the area is building amid fears of more attack
