    Siblings

Frenkie has one younger brother named Youri de Jong.

The brothers grew up in Arkel, where they both developed a passion for football through their local club ASV Arkel.

Youri, several years younger, has followed a football path as well, though at a more modest level, including spells with amateur and youth teams.

Their parents, John de Jong and Marjon Schuchhard-de Bruijn, fostered a supportive family environment that emphasized hard work and enjoyment of the game.

Frenkie has often spoken warmly about his close family ties, with Youri remaining connected to their hometown roots while Frenkie pursued his elite career.

    Career

De Jong began his professional journey at Willem II, making his senior debut in the Eredivisie before moving to Ajax in 2016.

At Ajax, he rapidly established himself as a star, helping the club reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2019 while winning domestic honors.

His performances earned him a high-profile transfer to Barcelona in 2019 for around €75 million.

Despite initial adjustment challenges and periods affected by injuries, he has become a mainstay in midfield, contributing to multiple La Liga titles.

He extended his contract with Barcelona until 2029 in late 2025 and recently became the Dutch player with the most appearances for the club.

Internationally, he has been a regular for the Netherlands, featuring in major tournaments and helping the team reach the UEFA Nations League final.

    Accolades

With Ajax, De Jong won the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup.

At Barcelona, he has secured multiple La Liga championships, Supercopa de España titles, and other domestic silverware.

He has also reached major European finals, including the UEFA Europa League with Ajax and consistent Champions League campaigns with Barcelona.

Individually, he has been named Eredivisie Player of the Month multiple times, recognized as Eerste Divisie Talent of the Season, and frequently included in team-of-the-season selections for his creativity and influence from midfield.
