Armed gunmen have shot dead a police officer guarding two Cuban doctors in Mandera town.
During the early morning attack, the two doctors were abducted.
The medics have been identified as Doctors Landy Rodriguez (a surgeon) and Herera Correa (general practitioner).
Police Spokesperson Charles Owino confirmed the attack saying police have launched investigations into the unfortunate incident.
He revealed that police have arrested a local driver in connection with the abduction.
Police have also recovered one vehicle.
Reports indicated that the armed men suspected of being members of Al Shabaab, ambushed the three in one of the local roads.
Sources say the medics were headed to their workstation when they were attacked.
After killing the officer, they bundled the medics into a waiting car and drove off.
