Ice lollies are simple frozen treats made from juice, fruit, or yoghurt. They’re perfect for hot weather and are fun to make at home using your favourite flavours. Whether you’re making them for kids or adults, ice lollies are a refreshing and healthy alternative to shop-bought options, and you can control exactly what goes into them. Here is how to make ice lollies.
- Gather Your Ingredients and Tools
To make ice lollies, you will need:
– Fruit juice, smoothie, yoghurt, or fruit puree
– Fresh fruit pieces (optional)
– Sweetener like honey or sugar (if needed)
– Ice lolly moulds or small cups
– Ice lolly sticks or teaspoons
You can use ready-made juice or blend fruits like mango, watermelon, berries, or banana with a bit of water or yoghurt to create your own mixture.
- Prepare the Mixture
Pour your chosen liquid into a jug. If you’re using fruit puree or blended smoothie, you can mix in a little water to make it thinner. Taste the mixture and add sweetener if needed. If you’re using yoghurt, stir it until smooth for an even texture. - Add Fruit Pieces (Optional)
Cut small pieces of fruit like strawberries, grapes, or kiwi and drop them into the moulds. This adds flavour, colour, and texture to your ice lollies. You can also layer different fruit mixtures for a colourful effect. - Fill the Moulds
Carefully pour the liquid mixture into the ice lolly moulds, leaving a little space at the top to allow for expansion when freezing. Insert a stick into each mould. If you’re using cups, cover the top with foil and poke the stick through the centre to hold it in place. - Freeze Until Solid
Place the filled moulds in the freezer for at least 4 to 6 hours, or overnight for best results. Ensure they’re standing upright and level to freeze evenly. - Remove and Enjoy
To release the ice lollies, dip the moulds in warm water for a few seconds or rub them with your hands to loosen. Gently pull the sticks to remove the lollies and enjoy immediately.
