Ichung’wah accuses Gachagua of orchestrating violence in Kikuyu

Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being behind the violence witnessed in the constituency, describing the chaos as “organized and deliberate.”

In a strongly worded statement, Ichung’wah claimed the unrest was not spontaneous but bore similarities to past incidents where political interests allegedly infiltrated peaceful protests.

He linked the events to previous episodes of unrest in 2024 and June last year, accusing Gachagua of using similar tactics.

The MP further alleged that Gachagua had spent the past week mobilizing individuals, including suspected criminals, to intimidate residents and advance his political agenda. He also claimed that some of those involved had been linked to robberies targeting motorists along the Southern Bypass.

Ichung’wah questioned why violence appeared to follow the former Deputy President, contrasting his approach with that of David Maraga, who he said recently visited the area peacefully.

Calling for immediate action, the legislator urged the government and the Inspector General of Police to launch investigations into the incidents and hold those responsible accountable.

He warned that no leader should believe they are above the law.

“To those orchestrating this violence under the illusion of political protection, you have crossed a dangerous line,” Ichung’wah said, adding that such actions undermine democracy and endanger lives.

He also appealed to Kikuyu residents to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding despite the tensions, assuring them that justice would be pursued through legal means.

The accusations come amid heightened political tensions in the region, with rival factions trading blame over recent disturbances that have disrupted movement and raised security concerns.

Several vehicles were damaged as goons blocked roads in the area ahead of the arrival of Gachagua and his team.

Police also lobbed teargas canisters at the entourage as they entered Kikuyu Town to start their rally sending the meeting into chaos. Many cars were stoned and damaged in the confusion.

The violence has attracted condemnation with many accusing the government of being behind the same.
