Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JKF) Board of Management today held an emergency meeting following Kahawa Tungu‘s exposé on managing director Rosemary Barasa.
The board members were called on a meeting during the lunch hour today in Naivasha where they were holding a workshop.
This desk yesterday exposed how Ms Barasa, 59, has extended his stay at the helm beyond retirement age, and now meting mistreatment upon junior staffers even as the firm sinks in loses.
Information we are getting reveals that Barasa is facing several allegations, among them misuse of bursary funds to reward her cronies and kinsmen.
Ms Barasa is accused of diverting donated sanitary pads, inner wears and other accessories meant for the JKF Scholarship girl’s students to schools within her home county, Busia County.
In 2017 and 2018, during the selection of scholarship beneficiaries, Barasa directed some students from Western Kenya to be offered scholarship while they were unqualified for it and without following the policy on scholarships provision.

In 2018, it is alleged that she traveled twice to western Kenya during the selection to make sure
that the said students were awarded scholarship.
In 2019, JKF under the MD advertised for scholarship and awarded scholarship to 155 students despite making a loss of Ksh118 million in 2018. The scholarship was not a necessity for a company struggling to find its financial footing.
There is a major variation from the signed report by the interviewers and those who ended up to be awarded the 2019 scholarship.
The scholarship policy and procedure is to award two pupils per county (girl and boy) in Kenya, summing to a total of 94 pupils but for 2019 the awardees surpassed by 65 summing to a total of 159 pupils.
Kahawa Tungu‘s investigative desk learns that most of the extra students never applied for the JKF scholarship by the time they were closed but they were awarded scholarship only to fill the forms later. This has led to alteration of the names of the students who were awarded earlier on.
Barasa is facing several other allegations which this desk will be exposing one by one.
