Former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has pleaded guilty to abuse of office charges and theft of Sh2.2 million.

The former legislator issued bad checks to Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society between October and December 2016.

She has however entered a plea bargain with DPP Noordin Haji and will apparently pay the full amount of money amounting to Sh.3 million in four installments.

The former nominated senator was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers in January 2018 after the Director of Public Prosecution gave consent to a charge of stealing, issuing bad cheque and abuse of office.

Gwendo’s sentencing has however been set for December 7, 2018.
