Kenya has announced 1,279 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours after 7,450 samples were tested. The country’s caseload is now at 116,310.

The cumulated tests so far conducted in the country are at 1,387,440.

Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefings, Kagwe stated that there is a surge of covid-19 cases in the country thus urged counties to expand their ICU facilities.

“We are urging our hospitals to quickly expand their ICU facilities. We have asked the county task force to identify areas we can convert to isolation facilities,” he said on Wednesday.

Kagwe added that the majority of hospitals in Nairobi are overwhelmed hence counties will have to deal with cases at their level.

He further reiterated that the COVID-19 virus has not gone away thus people should exercise individual responsibility by wearing masks, washing hands and keeping social distance.

“We are asking for cooperation and responsible behavior in the fight against COVID-19. I urge Kenyans to be determined to fight this wave. This is not the time to tire but to invigorate our determination so we do not fall on the wayside,” Kagwe said.
