    Kenya Power Board Seeks To Replace Arrested Officials

    Kenya Power Board held a crisis meeting on Sunday evening in a bid to fill positions of managers who have been arrested over Ksh4.5 billion scam.

    Among those arrested include the company’s former MD Ben Chumo, general manager for regional coordination Peter Mwicigi and legal secretary Beatrice Meso. Managing director Ken Tarus surrendered to the police on Sunday.

    Others who have been arrested include former general managers, John Ombui (Supply Chain) and Peter Mungai Kinuthia (Business Strategy).

    Others who are yet to be arrested are general managers Joshua Mutua (Commercial Services), Samuel Ndirangu (Information Communications Technology), Abubakar Swaleh (Human Resource and Administration), Stanley Mutwiri (Infrastructure Development) and Benson Muriithi (Network Management).

    They are set to be charged with conspiracy to defraud contrary to section 317 of the penal code, conspiracy to commit an offence of economic crime contrary to Section 47 A (3), abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with law relating to procurement and conspiracy to defeat justice.

    Board chairman Maalim Mahboub yesterday told a local daily that the meeting would pick new people to replace the officers in an acting role.

    “Everyone is presumed innocent until proved otherwise but because the institution must continue to operate normally, we will name people in acting positions as we wait for the cases to take its course,” Mahboub said .
