Kisii Governor Simba Arati has announced that his administration will recruit at least 300 nurses and doctors alongside 200 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) instructors in a major move aimed at improving service delivery across the county.
The the recruitment would shore up the existing shortage of personnel in hospitals and ECDE centre besides spuring up service delivery Arati observed.
Arati spoke while addressing hundreds of clergy members during a meeting held at the Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) in Kisii town.
“The purpose is ensuring our people get the services they are entitled to,” Arati stated.
He said strengthening the health and education sectors remains one of the key priorities of his administration, adding that the county government was determined to ensure wananchi receive quality services.
“We want our hospitals to have enough nurses and doctors so that our people can receive treatment on time without unnecessary delays,” said Arati.
He added: “Our ECDE centres also need more teachers because early education is the foundation of a child’s future. We are investing in our children so that they can compete favourably with others across the country.”
The new ecde staff adds to the initial batch of 1500 the administration had employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
The governor noted that some health facilities in the county continue to experience staff shortages partly due to natural attirition and thus the need for the recruitment.
According to him, the planned recruitment will help ease pressure on the existing workforce and improve healthcare access, especially in rural areas.
Arati further said the county government is committed to improving the working environment for health workers and teachers in order to enhance productivity and morale.
“We are not only employing more workers, but we are also improving hospitals and learning facilities to create a conducive environment for both staff and residents,” he said.
He said at least 900 ecde classes would be rehabilitated for use by the learners.
More other units would be put within the fiscal year.
The governor urged religious leaders to continue supporting development programmes initiated by the county government and to preach peace and unity among residents.
“We must work together as leaders, clergy and wananchi to transform Kisii County. Development cannot be achieved through divisions and endless politics,” Arati told the gathering.
The Governor also has praised President William Ruto for supporting key development projects in the region, including the upgrading of Suneka Airstrip and the construction of a modern Gusii Stadium.
He said the projects would transform the economic and social outlook of the Gusii region through improved infrastructure, investment and youth empowerment.
The governor revealed that Sh500 million, part of the funds required for the upgrading of Suneka Airstrip, had already been released by the national government.
“We appreciate President William Ruto for supporting the people of Kisii through these important projects. Already, Sh500 million has been released towards the upgrading of Suneka Airstrip,” said Arati.
He noted that the expansion of the airstrip would improve transport and open up the region to investors, tourism and business opportunities.
Arati further said demolition of old structures at Gusii Stadium had already commenced to pave way for the construction of a modern Sh1 billion sports facility.
“The construction of a modern stadium that will benefit our youth and sports development in the region,” he said.
“Once complete, the stadium would host major sporting events and help nurture local talent that has for years lacked proper training facilities” he stated.
He urged residents to support ongoing development programmes and maintain unity among leaders for the benefit of the county.
Clergy members who attended the meeting led by Peter Morwabe welcomed the recruitment plan, saying it would help improve services in schools and health centres across the county.
