The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its online application portal for teachers holding P1 and ECDE certificates who wish to upgrade their qualifications to diploma level.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, confirmed that eligible teachers can now apply for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) programme. KUCCPS is coordinating the placement process in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

To qualify, applicants must hold either a Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (P1) or a Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). They must also have scored a minimum of grade C in their KCSE.

“The Ministry of Education has introduced this programme to help teachers improve their qualifications and meet the demands of Competency-Based Education,” KUCCPS stated.

Applicants are required to access the KUCCPS system through the official website and select a public Teacher Training College (TTC) of their choice. Training will be conducted at 33 public TTCs across the country.

KUCCPS noted that the intake is set for August 2025, and the application process will run for the next two weeks. Interested candidates have been urged to apply early to secure slots.

The DPTE upgrade programme is part of the government’s broader effort to raise teaching standards and improve the quality of education in Kenya.
