LG Electronics (LG) has unveiled its new Optimus Black Android Smartphone in the Kenyan market.

According to George Mudhune, LG Regional Marketing Manager, East and Central Africa the P970 LG OPTIMUS Black is now trading at Ksh.40, 000, and available in all major shopping outlets across Kenya.

The handset has been coming for sometime and was initially known under the codename “B”. It is slim, measuring only 9.2 mm, coupled with the 4-inch IPS display capable of generating 700 nits of brightness.

The NOVA display on LG Optimus Black is said to also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. AMOLED is said to consume twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing.

The LG Optimus Black packs a 1500 mAh for daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings. LG Optimus Black weighs only 109g and offers sleek lines and smooth edges that improve handheld grip. The phone is launched at a time when Samsung is really struggling with the roll-out of Galaxy SII smartphone which is a competition to this phone. LG touts the Optimus Black as “the slimmest smartphone” at just 6.0 mm with the subtle back arch helping to create the illusion of even greater slimness.

For the LG Optimus Black, the flush and flawless finish of the front display is perefected by innovatively hiding the Invisible Receiver behind the edges of the phone.

The Optimus UI 2.0 lets users directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just one single finger tap.

The Gesture UI offers more intuitive commands, including lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music. LG Optimus Black also introduces the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct for quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices and adopts the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera.

LG Electronics yesterday opened the largest customer care centre at the Nakumatt Junction Nairobi. The state of the art centre is expected to serve customers needs-ranging from inquiry of products to offering accessories for mobile electronics.

Mudhune said LG will offer 50 percent discount to the services or purchases made by customers in the next two weeks as it opens from 8am-5pm daily.
