Residents of Kisumu are a worried lot after one of the non-governmental organisations in the lakeside city donated more than 200 body bags to the police for using during the upcoming elections.

According to sources in Kisumu, the NGO Malteser International has also promised to add more body bags should need arise.

The NGO is known to offer food relief and HIV-AIDS education to communities. It is not clear how they came to start offering such a high number of body bags like they are preparing police to easily massacre residents and hide bodies.

The NGO also donated first-aid and disaster preparedness kits to the officers. Some of the donations includes gloves, stretchers, first aid kits and other emergency materials.

The donations were handed over to the Administration Police Commander Joseph Keitany.

Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njenga has assured residents that the body bags were just to boost their preparedness and are not part of a plot to kill the residents as assumed.

But Njenga also added that police will not allow anyone near the polling stations apart from accredited observers.
