Police are looing for a gang that attacked and killed a 66-year-old man in Kambithi village, Kilifi County.
The body of Akiba Katana Ndegwa was found in a pool of blood after he was attacked by unknown assailants armed with crude weapons at his homestead.
Police said his wife discovered the lifeless body, which had two deep cuts on his head in his compound after the attack on April 2.
The assailants fled the scene after the attack and the motive is yet to be established. No arrest has been made and police said the body was moved to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits autopsy.
Meanwhile, a gang shot and injured a shop attendant in Matungulu, Machakos County. The incident happened on Thursday morning during a robbery mission in Matumani area.
The victim was shot in the right femur by a gang that had been pretending to be customers seeking to buy cigarettes from his shop.
Once inside, they pulled out a pistol of an unknown type and demanded money from the victim and when he resisted, a struggle ensued, during which the robbers shot him in the right femur and then escaped. He was rushed to Kangundo Referral Hospital for treatment.
Police visited the scene and recovered a spent 9mm cartridge. A hunt on the gang is ongoing, police said.
Elsewhere in Nkubu Market, Meru County, a boda boda rider was shot and wounded in a robbery mission. The victim said the attackers were in a car when they attacked him.
This after he tried to trail them over a failed robbery. The rider said he followed them to Kiigine Market and upon reaching the gate of Winner’s Academy, one of the occupants drew a pistol and shot him in the right side of his abdomen before driving off toward Nkubu Township.
Police officers responded to the scene and announced they are investigating the incident. No arrest has been made so far.
