Police in Mukaa Sub-County, Makueni County, are investigating a murder-suicide incident in which a man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.

The incident was reported on May 2, 2026, at Kwa Miui Village.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred at about noon while residents were attending a funeral service in the village.

A commotion was heard from the homestead of the couple, prompting one of the attendees to rush to the scene.

Upon arrival, the witness reportedly found the suspect, identified as Mwongeli Munyoki, armed with a kitchen knife, while his wife, Monica Munyoki, aged 45, lay in a pool of blood within the compound.

The suspect is said to have fled into the house and attempted to take his own life by inflicting a deep cut to his abdomen after being noticed.

Members of the public raised an alarm, and police officers from Salama Police Station, alongside detectives from DCI Mukaa, responded to the scene.

The body of Monica Munyoki was found with deep cuts to the head, injuries on both hands, and a mutilated index finger.

The suspect was discovered unconscious within the compound with a severe abdominal wound.

A blood-stained kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene and recorded as an exhibit.

The suspect was rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital in critical condition but later died while undergoing treatment.

The body of the deceased was also moved to the same hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police say the motive of the incident has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, are investigating the death of a man who was found lifeless inside his house in the Ndakaini area.

The incident was reported on May 2, 2026, after concerns were raised by residents who had not seen the deceased since the previous day.

According to the report, the man, identified as Justin Nyaga Mwagu, a masonry worker, was discovered seated on a chair inside his house. Efforts to call and wake him were unsuccessful, prompting the matter to be reported to police.

Police visited the scene and confirmed that the man was dead and the body had no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to General Kago mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death.
