On Monday, Kenyan Chief Justice David Maraga was present during the opening of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Conference in Dar er Salaam, Tanzania.
The Chief Justice’s introduction was met with a round of applause from those present at the occasion.
Tanzania’s Chief Justice Ibrahim Juma praised Maraga for his work in safeguarding the Constitution.

“I must also make special mention of Chief Justice of Kenya, Justice David Kenani Maraga, who has made it to this conference. This is after spending over 11 hours on September 20, 2017 to deliver landmark majority and minority decisions of the Supreme Court of Kenya. We are deeply honoured by your presence, Mr David Maraga,” said Judge Juma.
Maraga’s made history following his decision to nullify the August 8 presidential election on the basis that that the were several illegalities and irregularities with the electoral process.
Leaders in the Jubilee administration claim the CJ was biased and that he unjustifiably nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
The Chief Justice will continue to take part in the four day event being held at the Bank of Tanzania Conference Centre.
