The United Progressive Alliance Party (UPA) will now go to polls in 2027 with a new livery, symbol and slogan.
A meeting by the party’s National Executive Council officials in Kisii Wednesday resolved a radical rebranding of the outfit to make it more accommodative.
The party is mostly associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi.
Party officials hinted Matiangi would jet back the country in a fortnight to get officially launch his bid.
“Besides setting in motion talks to change the slogan, we are also are also growing more inclusive especially on women and youth,” party chair Amos Nyaribo, also Nyamira Governor said.
According to Nyaribo the fresh amendments form part of long and broader strategic realignments to secure victory in 2027.
“Once these proposals for the amendments are accepted by the Registrar of Political Party then we can start moving forward at a more faster pace,” stated Nyaribo.
The projected new symbols and logo shall be forwarded to the Registrar of Political Patties for approval before officially unveiling them to the general public.
Party Secretary General Jacob Bagaka insisted that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi shall use the party as his vehicle for his presidential bid.
“I am aware of the babbling and scramble for him especially by the Jubilee Party. For the purpose of clarity, I want our people to know that Matiangi would use this party to vie. We only ask like minded parties like Jubilee and many others to work with us to secure the victory we need,” Bagaka told journalists at Kamel Park Hotel in Kisii.
Bagaka said the party would be riding on the wave by the Gen Z who had been pushing for political hygiene.
“We met purposely to revise the party constitution to ensure more of these are on board. We have also agreed on modalities of including the disabled and women,” he told reporters.
Bagaka said the party must be seen to be all inclusive and responding to the emerging needs in society in the count down to the polls.
“This informs why we are doing away with symbols and slogans that lack national appeal,” he stated.
The party told president William Ruto to prepare for life in the opposition beginning 2027.
“Since he has done little to improve the welfare of the citizens it is better we tell him frankly and in no uncertain terms that nm opposition would be reserved for him,” the party Secretary General said.
Speaking at the event Prof Tony Namwamba said undertaking periodic reviews of the party was the mandate of the NEC.
“The review of system and modus operandi marks the first shift to making this patty nationalistic,” he said.
Among other issues discussed was rules of nomination as the party ramps up for the 2027 polls.
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo insisted that Matiangi would be flying back to Kenya in two weeks time.
“We are his harbingers and when you see us talking we are doing so on his behalf,” he said.
The party, he said was anchored on economic progressiveness.
“We believe that hardworking Kenyans have a chance to earn their living fairly and be appreciated because they play a big role in the economic development of our country,” he concluded.
