Michael McCarron is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on March 7, 1995, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, he stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 232 pounds.
He shoots right and is recognized for his imposing physical size, toughness, ability to play both center and wing, and willingness to engage in physical play while contributing offensively in a bottom-six role.
McCarron was selected 25th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has carved out a career as a reliable, hard-working forward known for his hits, penalty minutes, and leadership qualities.
Siblings
Michael grew up in a close-knit, hockey-oriented family in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, as the youngest of three children born to David and Nancy McCarron.
His older brother, John McCarron, played collegiate hockey at Cornell University, where he served as captain from 2011 to 2015.
Michael also has an older sister, Laura McCarron, who works as an emergency room nurse.
Career
McCarron developed through the U.S. National Team Development Program before moving to the Ontario Hockey League, where he played for the London Knights and was later traded to the Oshawa Generals.

In 2014–15, he helped the Generals capture the OHL championship and the Memorial Cup, contributing significantly in the playoffs and earning a spot on the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
He made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens during the 2015–16 season but spent considerable time developing in the AHL with affiliates such as the St. John’s IceCaps and Laval Rocket.
In 2020, he was traded to the Nashville Predators, where he gradually established himself as a dependable bottom-six forward and physical presence.
He enjoyed a career-high 22-point season (12 goals, 10 assists) in 2023–24 with Nashville.
On March 3, 2026, the Predators traded him to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.
As of the 2025–26 season, McCarron has appeared in over 380 NHL games, recording 36 goals and 43 assists for 79 points while accumulating more than 500 penalty minutes.
He has also represented the United States internationally, winning gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
Accolades
McCarron’s notable achievements include winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions and the Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals in 2015, where he was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
Internationally, he contributed to the United States’ silver medal at the 2013 IIHF U18 World Championship and, more recently, helped Team USA capture gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
