    Oliver Bonk is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman who plays for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League.

    Born on January 9, 2005, in Ottawa, Ontario, he stands 6-foot-2 and is known for his shutdown defensive play, strong skating, hockey IQ, and ability to contribute offensively from the blue line.

    Bonk was selected by the Flyers in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

    He spent four standout seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, helping the team win back-to-back OHL championships and the 2025 Memorial Cup.

    Bonk made his NHL debut with the Flyers in April 2026 and has begun transitioning from prospect to NHL contributor while developing in the organization.

    Siblings

    Oliver grew up in a close-knit hockey family as the oldest of four children.

    His father is former NHL forward Radek Bonk, a Czech-born player who was drafted third overall by the Ottawa Senators in 1994 and enjoyed a 14-year NHL career with the Senators, Montreal Canadiens, and Nashville Predators before playing additional seasons in Europe.

    His mother is Jill Bonk, a Canadian whom Radek met during his time in Ottawa.

    Oliver has one younger brother, Cameron Bonk, and two younger sisters, Kennedy and Maya.

    The siblings share a supportive family dynamic, with parents and siblings often attending games and providing emotional backing throughout Oliver’s development.

    Career

    Bonk’s hockey journey began in Ottawa’s minor hockey system before he moved to the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League with the St. Thomas Stars, where he earned All-Rookie honors as a defenseman.

    He was selected in the second round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection by the London Knights and quickly developed into a cornerstone player.

    Over four seasons with London, he accumulated 150 points in 189 regular-season games while emerging as a reliable two-way defenseman.

    His junior career peaked with strong playoff performances, including contributions to two OHL titles and the 2025 Memorial Cup championship.

    Bonk also represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2024 and 2025.

    After being drafted by the Flyers, he spent the 2025-26 season primarily with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, posting solid rookie numbers before earning a late-season call-up.

    He made his NHL debut on April 14, 2026, against the Montreal Canadiens, scoring his first career goal in that game.

    Accolades

    In the OHL, Bonk was a key part of the London Knights’ championship teams, contributing significantly in regular-season and playoff runs, including the 2025 Memorial Cup victory.

    He was named to the OHL Second All-Rookie Team following his strong debut junior season and received additional honors for his defensive play and overall impact.

    Internationally, he helped Canada at the World Junior Championship and gained valuable experience against top competition.

    In the AHL during his 2025-26 rookie campaign with Lehigh Valley, he was highlighted among top Eastern Conference rookies for his six goals and 19 points in 45 games.
