A 42-year-old miner died after being trapped by a gold mining tunnel in Nyangoma, Bondo, Migori County.

This is the latest such incident to occur in the gold mining sector, amid concerns about the safety of miners at large.

The victim was identified as Micharl Mbago. He had on Wednesday December 10, 2025 ventured into the tunnel for the gold proceeds with two others when it collapsed and fatally trapped him, police said.

The other two managed to escape the scene with minor injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Cases of deaths at such sites have been on the rise amid calls for the miners to prioritise their safety. The incidents have been reported in Migori, Nandi, Vihiga, Kakamega, Moyale, West Pokot and Transmara where there are gold deposits.

Meanwhile, police in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet are investigating an incident where a man died after being hit in the head in a fight. The victim was a worker of a construction site and police said he was yet to be identified on Thursday December 11.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.

In Adungosi, Teso, Busia County, a fight between two brothers turned tragic when one of them was fatally hit.

The body of Emmanuel Okinyang, 37 was found lying near his house with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.

He had a head injury, police said adding the suspected assailant later surrendered to the local police station where he was arrested after the Wednesday incident.

He had earlier on rushed the deceased to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Molo, Nakuru County, a juvenile boy was found dead after suspected drowning in Matumaini River. Police said the body was decomposed when it was found on Wednesday. It is suspected the boy died elsewhere before he was swept to the place.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
